This headset is one of the pioneers of the wireless boon to a mankind. It is old, that's why you will find no built-in microphone, and that means you can't pair it with a phone and receive calls. The purpose of these headphones is only to listen to MP3s, videos, and any audio files. It is designed for iPAQ models, but works with some other devices too (I used it with Tungsten T3 and I'm really pleased with it).

Comfort

Among the headsets of behind-the-head type this headset is the most comfortable, albeit not as good as the headphones of classic design. The decision which design to choose depends on your ear hardness (mine became awfully tired after 2 hours of wearing), but such behind-the-neck type of this very headset ensures secure fit.

Controls

I liked buttons very much, they are indeed thought out – big and well-distanced not to confuse them, so it is a piece of cake to make any adjustments. They are +/- Volume up/down; </> track forward/back; HP multi functional button (in the middle): power on/off, pause, pairing, re-establish connection. All the buttons are placed on the right earpiece, as well as a small indicator that shows the status of the headphones: Blue – power on, Bluetooth connection status, Red – power off, amber – charging. Also indicator flashes red when you need to recharge the battery. The headset flashes blue permanently while playing, some people regard it as another one irritating factor.

Disadvantages

Despite the fact that I'm content with this headset, I know there exist heaps of unpleasant experience. Some people faced lots of hassle with software installation, some people wasn't able to perform connection to their device, many users curse the sound quality. There are problems with players and with buttons.

HPSoon after their release HP iPAQ Bluetooth Stereo Headphones became notorious being lamentably fragile. The common problem for most of users is that the headband is extremely prone to cracking, and we enjoy an already broken pair as well. Forums are riddled with advice how to fix them. Incidentally, you can find in forums and comments lots of other recommendations, for example a piece of advice to replace Windows Media Player 10, if it is too fat for your device, for TCPMP (it helps to reduce choppiness), tips where to get necessary drivers or how to argue with the HP support service. People is really helpful and resourceful – necessity is the mother of invention.

Package

The package contains the headphones, an AC adapter with multiple power connectors, carrying case, extra earpads and the install software. The headset has a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery, that guarantees 9 hours of music. The AC adapter can charge both the iPAQ and the headphones. And you can listen to music while charging.

Sound Image

As for the sound quality, 30% of users praise the sound, and the rest are calling names. You see, it's not the matter of perception, the problem is in the quality of each single headset. Someone doesn't like the sound itself, some people hear stuttering and hissing. As for the range, we've learned empirically it is 8 m, such range have most of the headsets tested by us.

But still, there are many guys happy with their pair. If you are lucky – you'll get a worthy product with perfect sound, if you're not lucky enough – well, it's too sad... So you can check how adventurous you are :) To be serious, yes, I've got a lot of bad information, but our pair works perfectly – great stereo, no stuttering at all, good range. We purchased it in the beginning of 2006, but since had no problem except a broken headband. As far as I know, HP introduced some enhancements since then, I believe newer headsets are considerably better, but we didn't buy another one pair to check their quality.
