  • Easy operation and setting up.

Microsoft native driver and Widcomm interfere with each other. To begin with, remove any Microsoft native driver and any previous version of Widcomm Bluetooth software from your computer. To do it, click Start/Settings, select Control Panel and double click Add/Remove programs icon. Find the item Widcomm Bluetooth Software x.x.x.x and remove it.

As for the Windows native Bluetooth Stack, do the following (but be aware, that this will disable some Bluetooth-connected Windows functions):

Check whether you have enabled viewing of hidden/system files:
  • Press Windows key + 'e' key at the same time, and Windows Explorer will pops up
  • Click on Tools (Menubar) -> Folder Options... -> View (Tab)
  • Enable “Show hidden files and folders”
  • Uncheck “Hide extensions for known file types”
  • Uncheck “Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)”, click Yes or OK in answer to warning
  • Click OK to exit.

In C:\ Drive, Windows directory, 'inf' folder you will find two files: bth.inf & bth.pnf. Create a new folder and move these files to this folder.
In the end restart your PC.

Now let's install the Widcomm driver.

As you put Widcomm Driver CD into CD drive of your PC, an AutoInstall program will be started. As an alternative, double click on Setup.exe from the given Widcomm Driver CD or downloaded driver files. It opens the InstallShield Wizard dialog box. Click Next.

Image

Accept the software license agreement. Click Next.

Select destination folder, you can choose the default or change to your favorite. Click Next.

Then click Install to start the installation, and files will copy to your PC.

Click OK to ignore unsigned driver warning.

If Bluetooth dongle is plugged in your PC now, this screen will not be displayed. If not, it will pop up and ask you to plug in Bluetooth USB adapter. Plug in it and click OK to continue.

Image

Now installation is complete. My Bluetooth Places will appear on your desktop and a similar icon also appears on the lower right corner of your screen. Double click on one of these icons, then click “Explore My Bluetooth Places”, and ”My Bluetooth Places” program will start.

Click Start -> Settings.
Select Control Panel.
Select System.
Select Hardware -> Device Manager.
In Bluetooth Devices, you can find a new Widcomm driver: Broadcom USB Bluetooth Device.

Image

So, if you click on My Bluetooth Places, you'll see a list of Bluetooth devices. Choose your headset (or the other A2DP-enabled device). Next window will appear:

Enter passkey (usually 0000) and click Next.

You'll see a window, in which you should select the services you need. Then click Next.

Image

After that you'll see such a window:

Click Finish. The application will report, that the connection is established.

Go to Windows Media Player and choose a song you want to listen to. Press the Play button on your headset or click on the song with your mouse.

Enjoy!

Is there any way to increase the A2DP quality in the WIDCOMM drivers? I don't want to have to buy BlueSoleil. I have headphones that sound perfect when paired with my iPhone, and sound crackly and crappy when using the WIDCOMM stack on XP SP2. Is this an issue related to the dongle itself or the BT stack?

Hi, I somehow managed to install the widcomm software and looks like its working in dial up networking and other bluetooth features. But my Nokia BH-604 Headset is not getting connected as a stereo audio headset, it only connects as hands free unit and audio gateway. My dongle is v2.0+EDR and widcomm software is v5.0.1.801. Any idea how I can fix it?

After half a year of searching the internet for the way to connect Widcomm BT on ACER 5112 with Plantronics pulsar 590A, I found this article. Deleting Windows native BT driver files and reinstalling BT driver directly from Widcomm obviously solve the problem.
Thanks.
